Doncaster Rovers captain James Coppinger has outlined his plans to reach 100 career goals before he hangs up his boots at the end of the season.

The 39-year-old bagged his 94th goal as Donny comfortably defeated FC United 5-1 on Saturday in the first round of the FA Cup, and he announced his intention to reach that illustrious landmark.

“I’m retiring at the end of the season and trying to get to 100 goals, Coppinger said. “I think I’m on 94 now so it goes towards it.”

The club captain also spoke about his enjoyment for the game and why it has seen him continuing to play at such a high level at 39.

He said: “I enjoy what I do, it’s the biggest thing.

“I’ve got a great group of lads; Doncaster have been amazing to me over the last 17 years and the biggest thing is that I enjoy playing football.”

Next up for Darren Moore’s men is a visit from Sunderland next Saturday, where Coppinger will be looking to add more goals to reach that century target.
