Alvechurch striker Danny Waldron believes another famous FA Cup upset will transform their league struggles when they take on League One Forest Green Rovers at The New Lawn on Saturday. (KO: 3pm)

The Church, who are the lowest rank side left in the competition, are on their best FA Cup run since 1973, with Waldron playing an instrumental part in their remarkable first-round upset against Cheltenham Town, where he netted both the goals in a 2-1 victory.

Alvechurch's game against The Green will be televised live on the BBC, with the visitors having a fan allocation of 1244, and the 26-year-old says the occasion is something all of the club is looking forward to.

Waldron said: "It's something we're all looking forward to, I think the last game (against Cheltenham Town) was something very special playing in front of that many fans, I've said before we only play in front of about two to three hundred and I think there's going to be around 1200 at this game so we're hoping the same atmosphere is there for us and I'm looking forward to it."

It's been a contrast in the league however for Alvechurch, who currently sit 20th in the Southern Premier Central division, but Waldron believes another FA Cup victory will provide the confidence needed to turn the league form around and rise up the table.

Waldron added: "Picking up wins against Cheltenham and Forest Green is something we'll take massively into the league, there's a lot of games in hand, it's not easy to win those games in our league but it will be big confidence taking us in to the league no doubt.

"At some point, we'll pick a run up in the league which will be important."

Waldron also assessed why the club is doing so well in cup competitions compared to the league, as The Church have also exceeded expectations by reaching the second round of the FA Trophy.

Waldron said: "I think it's just a case of picking up a run and we've been lucky it's fallen with the FA Trophy and the FA Cup, we dropped points after our FA Cup games, probably on the back of it being a lot different playing in front of a lot of fans and then coming back to the league where there's not so many, so that's something we need to make sure we pick up on, we've all seemed to turn it on for the FA Cup and FA Trophy but it's important we do that in the league now with all the games we've got in hand."

If Alvechurch were to reach the third round of the FA Cup, they would be in with a chance of playing against one of England's most prestigious clubs, but despite the Birmingham-born forward admitting the thought had crossed his mind, he says full focus is still on their tie with Forest Green.

Waldron said: "It does come into your head a little bit, but you've got to stop yourself thinking too far ahead, the big focus is on Forest Green, they're again four leagues above us so it's not going to be easy, it's going to be a tough day and a very hard game and we're all going to need to be on it so that's the game we've got to focus on."
